What is the dosage and how should it be used?
Amiloride comes as a tablet which is to be administered orally. It usually is taken once a day in the morning with food and with a full glass of water.
Take this medication exactly as it was prescribed for you. Do not take the medication in larger amounts, or take it for longer than recommended by your doctor. Your doctor may occasionally change your dose to make sure you get the best results from this medication.
To be sure this medication is not causing harmful effects, your blood will need to be tested on a regular basis. Your kidney function may also need to be tested. It is important that you not miss any scheduled visits to your doctor.
Additionally, amiloride can interfere with the results of a glucose tolerance test. Stop using this medication for at least 3 days before you have this test and inform any doctor who treats you that you are using amiloride.
